ZOMBIE STREETS III by Samuel Amazing Ayoade

iii
All hail the power of the gods of guns,
Those that kill the body with its soul,
Gods that grope in the darkness of time
heading towards the monster’s shrine,
with secrecy and hypocrisy lurked in their medulla
and flesh of foetuses tucked between their canine teeth.
They shall submit at our monster’s feet.
.
Canabis-smoking canibals stagger in stupor
on these streets that never saw sunshine.
Brackish waters flow in drainages
that irrigate our door-steps and foot-steps
splashing spattering spatter on our scattered shattered battered dignity.
.
Men of honour and horror that never stopped their terror
trailing and tracking the ants of their people –
People who submitted the staff of leadership
and the scepter of authority to them
in good will.
.
Men run amok in tatters and fetters in their own house
because there are ‘god-fetters’ in this place.

GIVE US A VOICE

Dedicated to all accused innocents behind bars in prison
GIVE US A VOICE
Give us a voice and we shall speak
Give us a voice in the silence of time
Give us a voice to declare our wants
And our requests to make known
Give us a voice in the quience of life
That we may declare our innocence
We did not Dinah
Neither did we murder Naboth, Ahab did
Give us a voice and we shall speak
But we live everyday to die one day
And we die one day to live other days
O give us a voice today

Solemn Souls by Adegoke Adeola

Her eyes invited like a charming
star,
Of the shinning sky and the
meeky moon;
In the glorious night, of the
glorious sight
that pack the host of the pretty
things.
In her tender eyes, and her
gorgeous face,
that beats the drum of
happiness;
And play the tune for the dancing
breeze;
you will see the gleam of
wonderous things.
My precious Bride, My precious
Queen,
Your glance and grace is moving
me,
Towards the shade, towards the
ray;
where you laid in the beautiful
day.
You love my heart, I love your
soul,
I love your heart, You love my
soul.
Our heartily move can calm the
wind,
And our solemn souls can
conquer the world.

Looking Into Eyes by Ezifeh Chinua

Your rough-hewn lips open,
Wide,
Like men forced into labour,
Drawing
The barbs of your teeth…

(Pause)

“We’ve been talking for hours,
Giving,
Your stretched out arms
Bears nothing
In the pouch of its palm,
Spewing empty gift boxes
Till I looked into the plains of your eyes”

(Play)

…Reluctant teeth,to let pass
The caravans of lies spurned
By your anxious tongue.

About the Poet
Ezifeh Chinua is a student of engineering at Nnamdi Azikiwe university
awka. He has his works published in kalahari review, praxis magazine, amongst others.

REFLECTIONS 001 by Samuel Amazing Ayoade Blazing Pen

REFLECTION 001
one day, you will seek to hear this testament in reality’s reality
you will sow this seed with tears of remorse
but there will be a dew of drought and a shower of dryness
upon this soil which you fallow
.
one day, this epistle shall become flesh and assasinate you
this road you refuse to thread
shall become ropes
and strangulate you

POEM OF THE WEEK – Nightmares VII by Ayoola Goodness Olanrewaju

nightmares VII
i
i see old children paddling canoes on sandy stones
heading to heaven…
and there is the ocean of blood- clot
wearing the cologne of murdered tendrils…
the fishes are now giant zombies…
ii
if you take the next door there
it is where safety is not safe
where the blind prophesy the apocalypse for the seeing…
here is the upside down
i am upside down…
